I have been watching Torchwood from the beginning, why wouldn't I since I am a Doctor Who fan. Anyway... on to why we are here. Torchwood Miracle Day, the latest in the series has taken on a new life, after the deaths of most of it cast in the last season. Since it's beginning the Torchwood crew has been battling aliens in Cardiff, over in the UK. But this year, the only two members left alive head over seas to the US. It does make sense, Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) is American. As usual there is plenty of controversy around the series, this time do to the way the show begins, and one of the recurring characters. The show opens with the failed execution of convicted child molester/murderer Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman). At the precise moment of Danes execution something happens, unseen, that changes mankind. Everyone human on the planet can not die. That is with one exception, Jack Harkness, whom prior to Miracle Day had been immortal. Now Jack stands alone as the one human on planet Earth that can die. He is soon joined by CIA agent Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer), and his clerical counter part Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins), as the three of them try to figure out the cause of Miracle Day. Of course Rex finds himself as one of the undead, and unwanted, leading him to become one of Torchwood's newest members. Of course Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) is back as well, and stronger then ever.
One of the best things about the latest instalment of Torchwood, is that you didn't have to be a previous fan to enjoy it. Torchwood has started over, and new viewers can follow along without knowledge of the history behind the show. Although I would suggest new viewers go back and watch the previous seasons for a better under standing of the original characters and what ties them together so strongly. Torchwood can be found on DVD, and of course downloads online. Miracle Day airs on BBC1 in the UK and on Starz in the US on Fridays.
