Fright Night 2011

That's right boys and girls, welcome to "Fright Night"!

I personally am a fan of the original 1985 film, and hoped that the 2011 remake would do it justice... and guess what? I did, at least in my opinion. It is the perfect mix of thrills and giggles, and maybe even better then the original. But to be totally honest with you there really is no comparing the two. The films only share a few things and those being their title, character names, and main plot. Other then that they are two different movies, so much so that I have a difficult time calling the 2011 flick a remake. Maybe a retooling would be a better term. Let me put it this way, the 2011 "Fright Night" has more fangs.

Colin Ferrell gives a good performance as the menacing vampire Jerry, and Anton Yelchin was the perfect choice for the lead role Charley Brewster. Yelchin really brought Charley to life, and made him believable and lovable. But I think the break-out performance in the movie came from David Tennant as a much darker and deeper Peter Vincent. Tennant brought Peter Vincent to a new level, and really made you love and hate the character at the same time. I know that is conflicting, but that is Peter Vincent... isn't it? Last but not least I have to give a hand to Imogen Poots whom played the role of Charley's out-of-his-league girlfriend Amy.

I am only going to give one spoiler for those of you that have not yet seen the film, and that is to watch for Chris Sarandon (the original Jerry Dandrige), who makes a cameo in the film and becomes a quick snack for Ferrell.

The box office for the film was surprisingly low, coming in at a little over $37 million, on a $30 million budget. But don't let that fool you, "Fright Night" 2011 is well worth your time to watch. It is pure entertainment at it's best. I know for one that I will be watching it again and again, and again.

I have no choice but to give Fright Night 2011 a grand total of 5 stars.

Doctor Who: A Blast From the Past

This post is more for the younger viewers of Doctor Who, and the ones that are new fans. So let me start by saying, Doctor Who did not start in 2005. The first episode appeared on the BBC on November 23, 1963, with William Hartnell as the Doctor. The series ran until 1989 with Sylvester Mc Coy controlling the TARDIS. There was a TV movie in 1996 when Paul Mc Gann took the reigns as the eighth Doctor.

The show took on new life as it was resurrected in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston taking over the role as Doctor number nine. A year later David Tennant became Doctor number ten, handing off the TARDIS key to Matt Smith in 2010.

Doctor Who is considered the longest running television science fiction show in the world. It is even in the guiness book of world records. Doctor Who has a total of 777 episodes to date, and it looks to have many more to come.

The TARDIS (an acronym for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space), and as we all know is larger on the inside than the outside. The Doctor's blue Police Box is far more than just a time machine, but a timeless, ageless character in the series, and is as recognized by fans as well as the Doctor himself. Incarnations of the Doctor may come and go, but the TARDIS is the one constant through the entire series.

Doctor Who Fan?

Are you a Doctor Who fan? Well if you are into science fiction you should be. The revamped series is chucked full of great special effects, and the creature effects are better then ever. I mean come on who can't love an immortal, quirky guy, flying through space and time in an old blue police call box, and saving the world every week. The only down fall to this season is that it is no longer on Syfy. But believe me if you still want your Doctor fix, it is not a difficult task.

If you are a fan, and have been as long as I have you must have a favorite Doctor. Let me know who is your favorite. Mine had been Tom Baker for years, that is until David Tennant took over the role in 2006. If you ask me (and some have) Tennant was born to play the mad capped Doctor. Which is why he held the roll so long, and the fans still ask for his return. Nothing against Matt Smith, he is doing a bang up job. He just has some very large shoes to fill. There is a rumor however, that David may be showing up in the future. All I can say to that is Allonz Y!

But if you would like to see David showing off his acting abillities sooner, he is playing the role of Vincent in the remake of Fright Night. I have seen a preview of one of David's scenes and it is a steller performance as usual. I would have to put Fright Night on my must see list for this summer.
