Maneater 2009

What can I say about this direct-to-video horror film? Well one thing is that the production company missed the boat on this one. They should have taken the risk at the theater. The film may be low budget, but the story is not.

Dean Cain portrays a former FBI Profiler, turned small town sheriff. I for one have never been a Dean Cain fan. I've always found his acting a bit dry, and lifeless, but that works for him very well in Maneater, as the over-protective father to his teenage daughter, Pearl (Lacy Phillips), and stuck in his belief that his wife is coming home, even though she disappeared mysteriously some time before.

The story starts off with a young couple being attack in the woods. When will they ever learn... Don't have sex in the woods! The story slows a bit after, letting you get to know the cast, but it doesn't stay slow long. The creature effects are cheap, and the film has its fair share of profanity and nudity, but it is not over done and fits well within the plot. You just might think you have the story figured out, but the twist ending will most likely get you.
